The Gulf of Valinco
- Inland
Filitosa
Half an hour away from Propriano stands one of the most intriguing sites
on the island, a legacy of an aged civilization. A collection of 6000
to 8000 old stone faced monuments cover a section of the region and its
hillsides. This location attracts archeologists from around the world.
Two other neighboring sites offer examples of past religious cults: Fontanaccia
with its "devils forge" and Cauria, with an alignment
of standing stones. Public access is scheduled from April to October.
Sartene
Discover what the Corsicans call "the most Corsican among Corsican
cities". Twenty minutes away from Propriano, Sartene stands on a
peak overlooking the Rizzanese valley. The houses and narrow streets seem
to be clinging to the mountain. Sartene is also known for the Easter re-enactment
of the Passion of Christ called the "Catennacciu". A cross is
carried through the town and mass celebrated at the Santa Maria Church.
The most interesting places to visit are the Santa Anna quarters and the
"Echangette".
